    [edit]Plot

Eita Kidō enters high school with the aim to attend medical school. Due to his parents getting divorced and his intention to maintain his grades, he shuns anything to do with romance or love. One day, the school beauty Masuzu Natsukawa invites him to walk home with her, though he initially refuses. After she continues to do this for several days, he gives in and walks home with her. Masuzu is tired of constantly getting confessed to by boys, so she suggests that she and Eita become a fake couple. Although Eita tries to refuse, Masuzu blackmails him into becoming her boyfriend in name only. News spreads fast within the school of the new couple and Eita's childhood friend Chiwa Harusaki begins to confront Masuzu for Eita's affections.

    Ryōta Ōsaka (anime)
    Ohsaka, Ryota
Eita is the main character who aims to attend medical school after graduating from high school. He is very smart and always places at the top of the school exams. He has a strong distrust for love and romance because of his parents divorcing, finding new lovers, and abandoning him when he was in junior high school, thus calling himself "anti-romance". It is revealed that during his junior high school, he had teenage delusions, addressing himself as "Burning Fighting Fighter". However, his parents' divorce and Chiwa's accident caused him to abandon his delusions and reject romance, wanting to become a doctor to find a way to fully cure Chiwa's injury. Despite his teenage delusions being "gone", he shows some of them if he gets too emotional.
Chiwa Harusaki (春咲 千和 Harusaki Chiwa)
    Chiwa Harusaki
Voiced by: Aki Toyosaki (drama CD),

Chiwa is Eita's tomboy childhood friend. She is usually called "Chiwawa" (chihuahua) by her friends because of her petite physique and pair of twintails that resemble puppy's ears. She used to be in the Kendo Club starting from elementary school, but had to stop it due to a critical injury in a car accident the year before they entered high school, which prompts Eita to pursue a medical career in order to have her fully recovered. She does not give up easily and constantly fights Masuzu for Eita's affections. She loves to eat and especially likes meat, but is a terrible cook. However, in the light novels she starts improving her cooking skill for Eita. She has romantic feelings for Eita but was too shy to confess until Masuzu's interference. She is the closest female character to Eita. She dislikes seeing girls getting close to Eita but becomes fast friends with the other girls.
Masuzu Natsukawa (夏川 真涼 Natsukawa Masuzu)
    Masuzu Natsukawa
Voiced by: Chiwa Saitō (drama CD),
    Yukari Tamura (anime)

Masuzu is Eita's "girlfriend". Masuzu is Eita's classmate who spent nine years overseas. She is considered to be the school beauty and is constantly confessed to by male students, but always shoots them down. However, just like Eita, she hates romance, and used Eita's notebook filled with embarrassing things to blackmail him to form a faux romantic relationship with her. When she isn't together with Eita, she is bold and cold; but when she is, she acts more evil and very devious, and loves to use words to trick him. Her family was in Sweden and also has complicated relationship especially with her father, what made her form her twisted personality. Like Chiwa, she is a terrible cook. Masuzu likes to quote scenes from the manga JoJo's Bizarre Adventure, and being Eita's official girlfriend, Chiwa, Himeka, and Ai often join forces against her when battling for him. In the past, Masuzu's father took her off from her mother to use her so the higher society would accept him. However, because of this, she had to act, and soon, she has since then suffered from an identity crisis.
Himeka Akishino (秋篠 姫香 Akishino Himeka)
    Himeka Akishino
    Voiced by: Hisako Kanemoto
    Kanemoto, Hisako
Himeka is Eita's "ex-girlfriend", who has a one-sided crush for him. Himeka is a girl who has teenage delusions, believing her ex-life was "Burning Princess Saint Dragon Lady of Dawn". After she saw Eita lose control of himself and revealed some of his teenage delusions, she believed that Eita and she were a couple from her ex-life. However, while not being a delusional teen, Himeka is really quiet and answers usually only by nodding. Other girls often call her "princess" ( hime?).
Ai Fuyuumi (冬海 愛衣 Fuyuumi Ai)
    Ai Fuyuumi
    Voiced by: Ai Kayano
    Kayano, Ai
Ai is Eita's "fiancée". Ai is also Eita's childhood friend who moved ten years ago, whom he met one year before Eita met Chiwa, but returned recently. As a member of student committee, she attempted to stop Chiwa's and Masuzu's club activity due to it breaking rules, but later decided to join the club to win Eita back. During kindergarten, she confessed to Eita and the two even signed a makeshift marriage registration, making them engaged. However, nobody else except Eita and Ai know about this. She often has delusion of herself and Eita being a couple. Ai has also lied about having a boyfriend in college, and keeps a notebook like Eita's.
Saeko Kiryū (桐生 冴子 Kiryū Saeko)
    Voiced by: Kaori Nazuka
Saeko is Eita's aunt who lives with him. She started to take care of him when his parents split up. She works in a gaming company that makes mostly bishōjo games, is an expert with such games and always makes analogies of the real world to them with respect to girls. She is a workaholic who can survive long periods of time without sleep. Despite their insistence, she knew immediately that Eita and Masuzu weren't really a couple.
Kaoru Asoi (遊井 カオル Asoi Kaoru)
    Voiced by: Risa Taneda
