The World God Only Knows (神のみぞ知るセカイ?, Kami Nomi zo Shiru Sekai), abbreviated as Kaminomi (神のみ?),[1][2] is a manga series written and illustrated by Tamiki Wakaki. The manga has been serialized in the Weekly Shōnen Sunday magazine by Shogakukan since April 9, 2008, with individual chapters collected into eightteen tankōbon volumes as of July 2012. The prototype version of the story was first featured as a one-shot in Weekly Shōnen Sunday on its 2007 Issue 32 release, and was titled "Koishite!? Kami-sama!!" (恋して!? 神様?). The 2010 Issue #19 of Weekly Shōnen Sunday announced an anime adaptation had been green-lit, which premiered on October 6, 2010.

Plot

Keima Katsuragi, a second-year high school student, is an avid bishōjo game player. He is known on the Internet as "The God of Conquests" (落とし神 Otoshi-gami?) for his legendary skills to be able to "conquer" any 2D girl in games. However, in his actual school life, Keima is known as otamegane (オタメガネ?), a derogatory portmanteau of the two words otaku (オタク?) and megane (メガネ?, "glasses"), and is considered nothing but an intelligent yet gloomy geek with glasses.
At the start of the series, Keima receives an e-mail offering him a contract to "conquer" girls. When he accepts it, thinking it is an invitation to a game, a demon from Hell named Elsie appears. She asks for his cooperation to help her in catching runaway spirits: Loose Souls. These spirits hide themselves inside the hearts of girls, and Elsie suggests that the only method to force the spirits out is by "conquering" the girls hearts, making them fall in love with him and filling up the gaps which the runaway spirits hide in. Interested only in video game girls, however, Keima is appalled by the idea, and refuses the assignment as he has no romantic real life experiences whatsoever. Nevertheless, with the contract already agreed, Keima has no choice but to help Elsie no matter what, as they will be beheaded if they fail.
After winning the hearts of several girls (and capturing the spirits residing in them), Keima and Elsie are given an even greater mission, awaken the "Jupiter Sisters", six godessess who are daughters of the god Jupiter. Each sister is dormant into the heart of one girl among those they had previously helped, thus Keima must locate them and conquer their hearts a second time, as all girls had their memories of falling in love with him erased. However, the time for Keima to awaken and assemble all godessess is limited as he must do so to prevent an imminent invasion of the human realm by a rebellious group of demons called "Vintage".
Aside from focusing on Keima and Elsie's adventures, the series also makes fun and parodying common and popular cliches about dating sims, anime character stereotypes, and pop culture.

Keima is the series' main protagonist. A 17-year-old high school student from Maijima Academy, he has an obsessive interest in video games since an early age where he soon became known as "The Capturing God" (落とし神 Otoshi-gami) on the internet and gaming world for his legendary skills in "capturing" any girls in dating sims especially Bishōjo games. Yet ironically in real life, he is called otamegane (オタメガネ) (a derogatory portmanteau of the two words otaku (オタク) and megane (メガネ, "glasses")) by almost everyone in his school due to his extreme devotion to games. Due to his devotion, the only kind of girls he likes are the girls of the game world as they are, according to him, perfect and with no flaws unlike in real life. His love for games is such that he even goes into withdrawal if he doesn't play enough and has a bad habit of locking himself in his room and playing games for days on end when he's depressed. Keima seldom neglects to save his game no matter what situation he is in, despite him being in extreme pain or danger.
At the start of the series, Keima becomes involved in catching the Loose Souls, or Weiss, which have hidden themselves in the hearts of girls when he replies and accepts an email from Docrow Skull. As a result, having no full knowledge on what he signed on to, Keima is forced by contractual agreement to help Elise or suffer the death penalty alongside her. Using his games as a reference, Keima first tries to know about a girl's background and problems, planning various scenarios with the girl or do things together with her to make her like him. When he finally figures out the girls are falling in love with him and he just needs to do one more final push, he utters his catchphrase "I can see the ending".
In the beginning, Keima only helps Elsie conquer the hearts of girls in order finish his contract and go back to his "normal life" but as the series progress, Keima soon learns to start appreciate and care for the girls he conquered and promises to help them even though most of them have their memories erased after falling in love with him. This is even true for his view of the real world, something he once considered a world he doesn't want to be involved but now sees it as not such a bad thing. However, he still insists that the game world and its girls are still better. After conquering 14 girls, Keima is 'recruited' by Diana, one of the goddesses of the Jupiter Sisters, to help her find her sisters who may have resided within the girls he conquered before as the Jupiter Sisters have the power to reseal the Loose Souls and thus finishing his contract). But he soon gets involved in a conspiracy when a mysterious group from Hell called Vintage plans to revive the Old Demons of Hell known as the Weiss, the spirits he has been capturing. After Kanon is injured by a Vintage assassin for possessing a Goddess inside of her, Keima, regrets not protecting her and plans to find the other goddesses quickly in a week in order to save her life.
Whenever he isn't capturing spirits, he is almost always seen playing games on his PFP (a parody of Sony's PSP). Due to his habit of playing games all the time (including in class), he is physically weak. Yet despite his gaming habits, he is a genius in every subject and manages to get the top marks in his class. Although he has very little gaming experience outside of video games, he can pick up any game (including chess) and excel at it. Due to his snobbish and manipulative attitude, he tends to get the nerve of people including his friends and family yet despite these negative attributes, he has displayed genuine kindness and caring to others. In one point of the story, he switched bodies with a girl named Yui and got addicted with Otome games (Dating sims for girls) and even acted like a girl too. Since returning to his body, he blushes and acts like a girl whenever he's with Yui.
His first name is derived from the term "gamer".[1] In addition, his first name is also the same as the name of a shogi piece, which is similar to the knight in international chess.
Elysia de Rux Ima (エリュシア・デ・ルート・イーマ Erushia de Lūte Īma)
Elsie de Lute Irma
Voiced by: Kanae Itō (Japanese)

, Luci Christian (English)

Elysia or Elsie (エルシィ Erushii) as she is commonly known, is the series' Deuteragonist and Keima's partner. Elsie is a 300-year-old demon from Hell who has been sent to Earth to capture Loose Souls as a Spirit Hunter. Despite her age, she often acts childishly. Elsie has a sweet, pure and innocent personality. She is clumsy and easily distracted, which causes Keima to consider her unreliable.
At the start of the series, she meets Keima after he signs Docrow Skull's contract. Under the mistaken impression that he was a womanizer, she learns that he misunderstood the email and is actually a womanizer of game girls. As breaking the contract results in death for both the demon and human, she desperately manages to convince him that girls in real life are similar to those in games. She assists Keima in conquering the hearts of girls so she can catch the loose spirits inside of them.
In order to remain close with Keima without causing suspicion, she creates the role of his younger sister (and subsequently refers to him as "Kami-nii-sama" (Divine Brother)) by claiming that she is the illegitimate daughter of Keima’s father. She provides a forged letter to Keima’s mother, which allows her to live in the Katsuragi household and attend the same class as him.
Prior to the story’s beginning, she was a cleaner for 298 years until recruited by the spirit hunters. Elsie seized the opportunity to follow in the footsteps of her older sister, a famed spirit hunter. Elsie uses several items that she brought with her from the demon world. They include a long, floating scarf which can change the appearance of an object, enable her to fly, create disguises or hide people in plain sight, a skull-shaped hair ornament that detects loose spirits, and a magical broom from her previous job.
There are several running gags about Elsie including her cooking, which while pleasing and delicious to demons, is disgusting to humans due to her use of ingredients from hell. Her misunderstanding of human culture often leads to comical situations and her passion for fire trucks often sidetracks her from whatever task is at hand.
Due to her friendly and cheerful attitude, she has made many human friends, some of whom are the same girls whose hearts Keima has captured. Despite being her "husband's illegitimate child", Keima’s mother Mari adores Elsie and treats her like her own daughter. She is a big fan of the idol singer Kanon and is also the bassist in Chihiro’s band, known as the "2B Pencils", together with Ayumi, Chihiro, Yui and Miyako.
While Kanon was comatose, Elsie had been posing as her in order to prevent suspicion, and while she knows how to sing and dance like Kanon, she still acted like herself.
Haqua du Rot Herminium (ハクア・ド・ロット・ヘルミニウム Hakua do Lotto Heruminiumu)
Haqua du Lot Herminium
Voiced by: Saori Hayami (Japanese)

Haqua is a spirit hunter and friend of Elsie. A 300-year-old demon, she was an honors student and is the District Chief of Area 32 in Nagumo City. A perfectionist by nature, she was always the best in school, but has found the professional world to be impossible to dominate in the same way. Unwilling to adapt, her lack of success creates further failures and results in her own depression which lead to a loose soul controlling her, but she was freed by Elsie and Keima.
Due to her intellect and knowledge, Keima uses her to get a better understanding of demons, their history, and his own plight and occasionally entrusts her with information he hides from Elsie. While Haqua develops feelings for Keima, his odd behavior and personality irritate her. Apparently, Hakua can be considered a bit of a tsundere when dealing with Keima. She is one of the most frequent to cause Keima bodily harm, usually do to the fact that she's embarrassed. A recurring gag is how Keima usually walks in on Haqua in the bathroom or vice versa usually when she is in an embarrassing situation and it normally ends with Keima being hurt one way or another. Haqua also substituted for Elsie while the latter was posing as Kanon and was Keima's partner in rounding up the goddesses.
As a spirit hunter, she possesses a skull-shaped hair ornament and magical raiment like Elsie’s but also the 'Scythe of Testament', a scythe awarded to the class Valedictorian. She lives with her human partner, an old woman named Yukie who treats her like a daughter, teaching her how to cook human food and embarrassing her in front of Keima, whom she originally assumes to be Haqua's boyfriend.
After Haqua is arrested by Vintage loyalists after she discovers how much they have infiltrated into the spirit hunters and replace Haqua with one of their agents, she is rescued by Docrow Skull who smuggled her back to the human world to help Keima.
Her first name is derived from "Cretaceous (白亜 Hakua)".
Tenri Ayukawa (鮎川 天理 Ayukawa Tenri)
A shy 17-year-old girl from Maijima Municipal Misato East High School. A reticent childhood friend of Keima, she was his neighbor before his family moved seven years ago. In the present, she and her mother visits the Katsuragis where Keima does not remember her well. Unknown to Keima at first, he believes Tenri has a spirit inside of her but in reality it is a Goddess named Diana. Ten years ago during a school trip, both Keima and Tenri got lost in an underground cave where they both witness the Weiss (what evil spirits where called before) escaping from Hell and were saved by Diana who agreed to take over Tenri's body. In order to save Diana, who is being chased by Nora who believes Tenri has a spirit inside of her, Keima pretends to capture Tenri's heart and kiss her and have Elsie release a weak spirit in order to fool Nora. After that incident, Tenri's family soon moves next door to Keima's home.
Tenri has been in love with Keima since they were children as she admired his ability to remain calm and collected no matter the situation. Despite Diana suggesting that Tenri should do more to make Keima fall for her, Tenri is just fine with their current relationship of being friends. She also enjoys doing magic tricks and playing with bubble wrap.
As Diana's host, whenever Diana takes over Tenri's body, she is able to perform and do amazing feats that Tenri is unable to. While she usually does nothing when Diana takes over, Tenri will sometimes interfere if Diana does something she disapproves, especially when it comes to Diana's attempts to make her and Keima closer. While not taking over, Diana can communicate and see others via reflective surfaces like glass or mirrors. Because of Diana's knowledge about Heaven's involvement with the New Hell regime, Keima usually meets Tenri to discuss with Diana about these topics. With recent events of Keima trying to find Diana's other sister Goddesses, Keima has warned Tenri to be careful as to not catch the attention of those targeting the Goddesses.
Tenri's name is derived from Tenri Station (天理駅 Tenri-eki) and her character design is modeled after Diana Barry, from Anne of Green Gables.

Conquered Targets

The following are the girls in the manga/anime that were once possessed by the Weiss. Each of the girls had a personal problem that allowed the spirits to hide inside their hearts where it feeds on their negative emotions and grows stronger. A side-effect of the possession is that the more powerful a Weiss gets, the host starts to manifest unique powers which is reflective of their personality. Most Weiss stay in their host until they are reborn as the girls' first born child; however, if the spirits are not removed before it becomes too powerful, they will take over their host. To prevent this, Keima tries to find out the girls' problems, try to solve it and make them fall in love with him (although there are variations for some of them). Once the spirit is forced out and captured, the girls' memories, including those of their acquaintances, are erased and modified by the Spirit Hunters, yet the girls' feelings for Keima and change of outlook remain. Each of the girls that Keima has helped are listed here chronologically.
Ayumi Takahara (高原 歩美 Takahara Ayumi)
Voiced by: Ayana Taketatsu (Japanese), Kaytha Coker (Season 1), Elizabeth Bunch (Season 2) (English)
Keima's first conquest. An athletic, cheery 17-year-old girl, Ayumi is a member of the school's track-and-field team and Keima's classmate. She and Keima are often paired up for cleaning duty together which the latter despises due to her absentmindedness. She also tends to run carelessly into people. As Keima's first target, he tries to get her interested with him by showing his support (with Elsie's help) while she is training for the upcoming track-and-field tournament. While she at first is annoyed with his actions, she eventually gets used to him. However, the day before the tournament, Ayumi is confronted by jealous seniors and sprains her ankle during practice. However, Keima figures out that she faked her injury as the peer pressure from her seniors made her lack self-confidence. Keima consoles her and tells her to believe in herself, which makes her fall for Keima and kisses him, forcing the Loose Soul out. After winning the tournament and getting praised by her seniors, she becomes more eager to spend time with Keima and starts calling by his last name Katsuragi instead of his nickname Otamegane.
She is also friends with Elsie, Miyako, Chihiro and Yui where they a form a rock band called the "2B Pencils" with Ayumi as the Guitarist. Recently, Keima has suspected that she maybe a Goddess host due to Ayumi being interested with him and getting jealous over Kanon's confession to Keima. During Keima's search for the Jupiter Sisters, Keima gets sick and uses it as pretense to have Ayumi visit him to confirm her as the host of the Goddess Mercury. Keima only confirmed that Ayumi is Mercury's host after he makes a move on Chihiro instead. Angry at Keima for rejecting Chihiro after she confesses to him, Ayumi has become according to him, his most difficult girl to conquer, given the now strained relationship between the three and the fact that time is running out for him to assemble the goddesses as Vintage's invasion on the human world is about to begin. With the help of Chihiro, Keima manages to become closer to Ayumi once more, but this final conquest has proven even more difficult than he predicted, as not only she asked him in marriage, to which he agreed, but for the first time in a conquest, Ayumi asked Keima if he truly loves her, something he never said to any of the other girls.
Her surname is derived from Takanohara Station (高の原駅 Takanohara-eki) and her habit of tying up her hair during track-and-field is a homage to Dōkyūsei's heroine, Misa Tanaka.

After an argument between the two and realizing he never consider her feelings, Keima chases after Chihiro and confronts her where she shouts her feelings to him that an average girl like her can never be special but he kisses and tells her, as long as she truly wants it, nothing can stop her from becoming special, which forces the spirit out.

But Keima, learning she has a spirit inside of her and in an attempt to get rid of it, does his best to try and get her angry, such as playing more games in class but his plans backfire which only causes her to be more concerned about him instead, which infuriates him. Eventually, Keima does cares about her when he unintentionally upsets her, causing her to try to help the other students in his class. After Keima asks Nikaido about her past, she reveals that both she and Jun were on the high school basketball team with Jun as the Team Captain but Jun passionate desire to aim for the championship caused the rest of the team to quit because they felt she was just forcing her ideals onto them. After her over-zealousness leads to a disagreement with the students in class, Keima confronts her and reveals that the problem wasn't because she was trying too hard but she was just giving up too easily and tells her to continue to follow her beliefs and not give up. Right afterward, the whole class (thanks to Keima's manipulations) reconciles with Jun. Before returning to Narusawa University after her time as a student teacher is over, she tells Keima that she will become a better teacher, make him give up video games and kisses him which expels the spirit.
During Keima and Haqua's search for the Jupiter Sisters, they encounter Jun at her university who still remembers him. When he claims he has become a better student and Haqua is his girlfriend, Jun congratulates him without showing any signs of jealousy which Keima sees as proof that she doesn't have a goddess inside her as her memories of falling in love with him are gone.
The cause of Jun's negative emotions was her doubt of having her ideals coming true.

However, Keima's suspicion comes true when it is reveal that Tsukiyo is the host of the goddess Vulcan. Unfortunately, Vulcan via possessing Luna, catches Keima with Shiori and tries to kill him for being unfaithful but he escapes and confronts Tsukiyo and Vulcan at the observatory. There, Tsukiyo reveals she still remembers her time with him but is angry that he is three timing her along with Kanon and Shiori. Keima then tells her to trust him and that since he gives love to her then to give love back to him as well while receiving Vulcan's attacks. When Vulcan is about to finish Keima Tsukiyo intervenes and stops Vulcan revealing her true feelings and kissing Keima. Vulcan is currently the "most" developed Goddess by having a halo and a pair of wings that grew up when Tsukiyo kissed Keima. When Keima takes her to see Kanon, he encounters Fiore from Vintage and develops a plan to get her to reveal Vintage's plan and after hearing it Vulcan easily defeats her. Supernatural Beings

A long time ago, the realms of Heaven, Earth and the Underworld maintained a harmonious relationship with human souls where if a human dies on Earth, it's soul will be ferried into the Underworld where half of its energies are processed and later sent to Heaven where it's remaining energies are processed and send back to Earth to be reborn. But 300 years ago, the demons of the underworld became greedy for the energies of human souls and devise a plan to take over both Heaven and Earth. However some demons were against it and rebelled against the conspirators. Together with the forces of Heaven, the rebel demons, who would be later known as the New Hell era demons defeated the conspirators, now known as the Old Hell era demons and sealed them. With the Old demons reign over, the New Hell regime took over the Underworld and introduce many changes in demon society including democracy, ending barbarism and an energy efficient society. However, ten years ago, runaway spirits, called Loose Souls or Weiss, escaped from the Underworld and came to Earth. In order to stop the Weiss possessing human girls, the Spirit Hunter squads were created to capture them. Yet unknown to most New Hell demons, the Weiss are in fact the souls of the Old Hell demons who are using their hosts in order to be reincarnated within their children.

Spirit Hunter squad

Spirit Hunters are demons and their human partners who are assigned to capture the Weiss.

Nora's human partner is a young man named Ryou who is unfortunately useless so she tends to do the work all by herself. Unlike Keima's and Yukie's method which forces the spirits out of the possessed with love and kindness, Nora forces spirits out of the possessed by giving them what they desire (eg.riches for those who desires money, suitable partners who desire love, death who desire revenge, etc) which fills their hearts so much it forces the spirits out. Unfortunately, due to her impulsive nature, she sometimes mistakenly assumes most peoples desires are hate and kills the person they hate even if they don't really hate that person at all. Haqua dislikes Nora due to her arrogant behavior and having bigger breasts than her. Despite looking down on them, Nora does care about her fellow Spirit hunters and refrains from doing anything that may kill them. She later becomes a part of Keima's quest to find and protect the Jupiter goddesses after enticing her that she will receive all the credit if she helps him. It is shown that she is quite shrewd with a keen intuition when she manages to trap Fiore after Haqua released her, knowing what both of them would do. Most recently, Nora has decided to join Vintage to act as a double agent to protect the goddesses, going as far as sending her buddy to aid Keima.
Ryō Asama (浅間 亮 Asama Ryō)

But in reality, he is an idiot who is unable to remember his lines and is forced to rely on small sheets of notes to remember them, which isn't much better as he is terrible in writing kanji and often misspell his lines. He even can't differentiate his left hand from his right hand, forcing him to write the words "left" and "right" on his hands to remind himself. It is because of these faults that Nora sees Ryō is useless and will beat him whenever he fails her or annoys her.
Yukie Marui (丸井 雪絵 Marui Yukie)
A 54 year old saleswoman and Haqua's human partner. She sells Gokult (a parody of Yakult) by delivering and selling the drink around town. However, Keima manages to explain to Haqua that Yukie method is working albeit slowly as she is trying to get to know the possessed personally while visiting them in her work. Haqua lives with Yukie at her house where the latter dotes on her like a daughter and teaches her how to cook human food.
Meg (メグ Megu) and Angie (アンジェ Anje)
Haqua and Elsie's friends.
Camry (カムリ Kamuri) and Cresta (クレスタ Kuresuta)

Fiore Loderia Lavigneri (フィオーレ Fiōre)
A spirit hunter and friend of Haqua and Elsie who is secretly a member of Vintage, an organization compose of New Hell era demons who wants to bring the era of Old Hell back to the Underworld. Her first appearance was after observing Keima and Elsie getting Yui's evil spirit and believing they capture it. She makes her official debut after disguising herself as Kusunoki and manipulates Kusonoki's sister Hinoki in order to make the spirit inside her more powerful. But her plan fails when the spirit is defeated and captured which shocks Fiore. Fiore returns again, this time searching for the Jupiter sister goddesses. By using a modified spirit sensor, she manages to find the Goddess Apollo inside of Kanon and tries to kill her with an enchanted dagger and believes she has succeed, unaware that she has failed to kill her. When she transfers to Nora's district, Keima suspects she is a member of Vintage and is able to prove it when she falls for a trap made by him and Haqua where she tries get her modified spirit sensor back. However, Fiore convinces Haqua to releases her despite Keima instructions not to which Fiore takes advantage by trapping both Haqua and Nora into her own spirit catcher bottle and creating magical doppelgangers of them to take over their districts for Vintage. Unfortunately for Fiore, when Keima returns home, he lets himself get captured by her where he tricks her again by having her expose Vintage goals and the true purpose of the Spirit Hunter Squads where unknown to her and her minions, Tsukiyo, whom Keima earlier discover was the host of the Goddess Vulcan, has been secretly listening. Vulcan, angered from this revelation, decide to make Fiore and her minions suffer her wrath. Currently, she is held captive by Keima in his home.
Lune
Another agent of Vintage within the spirit hunters who oversees other fellow Vintage agents. She is a very moody person as she can easily switch from quiet to happy to angry. She despise humans but is not allowed to harm them so she instead scares them by cutting herself which she seems to enjoy doing. After Haqua is fired from the spirit hunters, Vintage has Lune take over her position as District Chief of Area 32.

The Jupiter Sisters

The Jupiter Sisters (left to right): Mercury, Minerva, Mars, Diana, Apollo, and Vulcan.
300 years ago, the Heavens helped the New Demons defeat the Old Demons for control of the Underworld. In order to seal the Old Demons forever, six sister goddesses, daughters of the god Jupiter, sacrificed themselves to seal themselves together with the Old Demons in the Underworld. Ten years ago though, the seal was broken and the Old Demons, now called the Weiss escaped to Earth including the Jupiter Sisters, who were now weakened due to the time they spent confined. Keima's current quest is to find them as he believes that they currently reside in the girls who he had previously conquered. Unlike the Weiss, whose powers comes from negative emotions, the goddesses powers come from love. Furthermore they can communicate with people by either taking through their host, which changes their appearance, or speaking via reflective surfaces. When a goddess is in control of her host, a tell-tale sign can be seen in the form of a halo above the host's head and when their powers are restored, they manifest angel-like wings. Each of the goddesses are name after a Roman deity. After all goddessess are awakened and Vintage's plans are foiled, they come with another problem as all their hosts fell in love with Keima and each goddess wants her own host to find hapiness by having her feelings for him requited. The situation becomes even more complicated with one of the goddessess falling for Keima herself instead of only her host.
Diana (ディアナ)
Goddess of "the hunt and the moon", she is the third-born sister who resides in the body of Tenri Ayukawa. At first, Keima believed her to be a Weiss until Tenri manages to convince him otherwise after she tells Keima about how she first met Diana, who saved them both ten years ago from the Weiss. Because of her knowledge which Elsie and Haqua aren't aware of, Keima visits her when he wants to know more about the relationship between Heaven and the Underworld. When Diana takes over Tenri's body, she appears with slanted eyes in contrast to Tenri's rounded eyes. Diana acts cold, selfish and thoughtless most of the time which tends to irk some people, yet she is very supportive of Tenri's love for Keima. She wishes for Tenri and Keima to be a couple as it would restore her powers, despite being disgusted that Keima has managed to make other girls fall in love with him as well. Diana is also the one who originally requested that Keima should find her sisters, in exchange for helping him seal back the Weiss, and finish the contract with Elsie. Later on in the series, after Keima apologises to her for his indecisiveness, Diana regains more of her powers and now has the ability to use her wings. Even though her wings grew, she did not notice it and feels that the reason her wings didn't grow is because she too, has feelings for Keima. Feeling bad for Tenri, she tries to push Tenri with Keima even more.
Apollo (アポロ Aporo)
Goddess of "music, poetry and the arts", she is the second-born sister who resides in the body of Kanon Nakagawa. Unlike Diana, Apollo admits she's an idiot and does not remember much except that she and her sisters previously sealed the Weiss. Apollo manages to regain some of her powers thanks to Kanon's songs which are filled with love and in the process helped Kanon remember her erased memories. When Apollo takes over Kanon's body, facial markings appears on her face. Like her sister, she too is supportive of her host and wants Kanon and Keima to be a couple. However, when they were targeted by Fiore of Vintage, Kanon confesses to Keima that she still remembers him but Apollo takes over and runs away as she thinks that as a human being, Keima should not get involved. Unaware that Keima was sent by Diana to find the other goddesses, her mistake soon causes both her and Kanon's lives to be in danger when Fiore stabs her with a dagger, enchanted with the dark magic of Old Hell. Before falling into a coma, she sends a message into the sky warning her sisters to trust no one as she believes that the New Hell demons have betrayed them, making Keima's quest to find the goddesses much harder. Later on, the curse is finally removed with the combined strength of Diana and Vulcan, but Kanon remains in a suspended state due to a spell Apollo used to protect herself, submerging her consciousness in the process. After Keima manages to contact her and Kanon within a dream world thanks to four of the Jupiter Sisters, she warns him of an upcoming danger in the future.
Vulcan (ウルカヌス Urukanusu)
Self-proclaimed goddess of "love and justice", she is the first-born sister who resides in the body of Tsukiyo Kujyō, though more often personified in the form of her doll Luna. Unlike her sisters, Vulcan is almost blind, almost deaf and can not walk, but instead possesses the ability to move and animate objects telepathically. When Vulcan takes over Tsukiyo's body, her hair becomes darker. During Keima's search for the Jupiter Sisters by getting reacquainted with his past conquests, Vulcan catches Keima getting friendly with Shiori through her possession of Luna. Angered with the rumors that he is already dating Kanon and now catching him three timing with Shiori behind Tsukiyo's back, Vulcan vows to punish Keima and protect Tsukiyo by killing him. Despite this, Keima still manages to evade her attacks and confronts Tsukiyo herself, who chooses to believe in his sincerity. This causes Vulcan to reluctantly cease her attacks, and after Tsukiyo kisses Keima on the cheek, Vulcan grows a pair of wings, (much to Diana's chagrin).
Mars (マルス Marusu)
Mars, the goddess of war, is the fourth-born sister who resides in the body of Yui Goidō. When Mars takes over Yui's body, her hair becomes lighter, tied into a braid while wearing a ringed headband. Unlike her sisters, Mars has only just recently awoken after Yui started dating Keima when the latter agreed to cross-dress for the occasion. As a goddess of war, she is very cautious about going into any new situation and always suggests that Yui bring a weapon with her as a safety precaution. Mars is just a little confused by Yui and Keima's cross-dressing and at first, mistakes them for a boy and girl respectively, but while she has only just got to know Yui recently, Mars fully supports Yui's love for Keima. After "saving" Keima from a disguised Haqua and kissing him during their date, she too is shown to have recovered enough power to use her wings.
Minerva (ミネルヴァ Mineruva)
The Goddess of wisdom and poetry and the fifth-born sister. The only way to force the spirits out of the girls hearts is by replacing the spirits in the girls' hearts with himself (metaphorically speaking) by making the girls fall in love with him, much to Keima's horror. With the threat of death for both of them should he refuse, Keima has no choice but to help Elsie. Together with his intelligence and knowledge of the dating sim genre and Elsie's magical powers, Keima is about to embark on his greatest challenge.

Shiori laments on the fact that her shyness has prevented her to speak to people normally, but decides she doesn’t need to communicate with people and the only things she need is her books. The next day, the Library committee has decided to add a Media room for the library. Shiori tries to give her opinion to the committee but is too shy to speak up. Later, she catches Keima writing in one of the library books which he justifies that he was making corrections and comments how books can’t instantly be corrected, angering Shiori. The next afternoon, she catches Keima doing it again only to realize he’s scribbling in his own book. In anger and confusion, she starts thinking outloud without realizing it until Keima points it out. The next day after that, Keima introduces himself to Shiori and talks about the library, now that she is speaking normally to him. With Shiori now speaking up, Keima decides it’s time to capture her heart after finding a Library notice to dispose library books for the Media room.

Shiori locks herself and barricades the library to prevent the Library committee from disposing books for the Media room. As the committee tries to get inside, Shiori falls asleep and dreams how her love for books began until she is awoken by Keima who manages to enter the Library through a hole at the rooftop made by Elsie. Keima has come to support Shiori in her protest and stays close to her. The Library committee cuts the power to the library, surprising Shiori and causes some books to fall over them. As she hugs Keima, Shiori tells him that only he understands her love for books and reasons for protecting them. However, Keima calls her a liar and tells her she didn't barricade herself to protect her books, but herself to the world. Keima knows she always wanted to talk to people, but her fears of being misunderstood prevented that which is why she reads books as an escape from the real world. Troubled with this revelation, Shiori feels unsure on what to do until Keima drags her out of the rubble of books, telling her he'll be her support and kisses her, which releases the spirit. As the Library committee finally enters the library, Shiori finally speaks up for herself and explains her reasons which the committee agrees to have a meeting. In the epilogue, Shiori feels like she has forgotten someone who was with her during her protest so she writes a story on what she remembers.

Reception

The third volume of The World God Only Knows was the fourth highest-selling tankōbon in Japan on the Oricon Comic Chart for the week of January 13 and January 19, 2009, with over 50,500 copies sold that week.[19] The following week, it was the twenty-first highest-selling manga volume in Japan, having sold 30,600 copies the week of January 20 and January 26, 2009. As of January 2009, the third manga volume have sold about 81,100 copies.[20]
Carlo Santos of Anime News Network reviewed the anime's first season and gave it a B where he was surprised how much he enjoyed the great storyline despite its plot description alone might be off putting to some saying, "By most expectations, anything involving ditzy demon girls and gaming-obsessed geekboys and a rotating lineup of high school beauties should have been the stuff of critical derision. Yet the show's sharp sense of humor, honest emotions, and polished production values prove that working with familiar clichés doesn't have to result in a clichéd product. With the right prodding and poking, any anime series can indeed become greater than the sum of its parts."[21]
